Enquanto Carey West e seus colegas observam o carregamento, percebem que ele \u00e9 menor do que as 80 jardas c\u00fabicas que esperavam.   <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA gente comprava bastante areia de uma empresa que cobrava 80 cu. yd. por caminh\u00e3o\u201d, diz West, falando das experi\u00eancias que teve quando trabalhava na empresa de constru\u00e7\u00e3o do pai, na Nova Zel\u00e2ndia, h\u00e1 quase 20 anos. \u201cA gente despejou a carga no ch\u00e3o e pensou: \u2018Isso n\u00e3o d\u00e1 80 cu. yd.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>West e seus colegas mediram manualmente as pilhas entregues para determinar seus volumes. Com base nessas medi\u00e7\u00f5es, eles conclu\u00edram que o fornecedor de areia estava entregando menos do que o combinado. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cO motorista do caminh\u00e3o dizia: \u2018Voc\u00eas andaram por toda a areia, acabaram compactando-a\u2019\u201d, conta West. West e seu pai discordaram. Eles achavam que o fornecedor estava se aproveitando deles.   <\/p>\n<p>Em casos parecidos, West conta que a empresa de constru\u00e7\u00e3o da fam\u00edlia dele ficou com falta de material porque a areia que eles pediram ficou presa na parte de tr\u00e1s do caminh\u00e3o do fornecedor na hora de descarregar. Isso foi inaceit\u00e1vel, diz ele. \u201cUm caminh\u00e3o transportava 10 cu. yd., e 1,5 cu. yd. ficava preso no caminh\u00e3o\u201d, diz West. \u201cIsso \u00e9 inefici\u00eancia.\u201d   <\/p>\n<h3>O in\u00edcio do Loadscan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loadscan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/empty-loaded-profiles.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loadscan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/empty-loaded-profiles-300x232.jpg\" alt=\"perfis vazios carregados\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loadscan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/empty-loaded-profiles-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.loadscan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/empty-loaded-profiles.jpg 415w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Como esses incidentes aconteciam o tempo todo, West e seu pai resolveram acabar com eles e desenvolver um sistema que pudesse medir com precis\u00e3o os volumes de material. Eles come\u00e7aram a desenvolver esse sistema em 1998, explorando a ideia com alguns engenheiros. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEncontramos um cara que ainda est\u00e1 comigo at\u00e9 hoje\u201d, diz West, que fundou a LoadScan Ltd., sua empresa atual, em 2012. \u201cEle desenvolveu um sistema com algumas varia\u00e7\u00f5es que usavam c\u00e2meras. Em nove meses, j\u00e1 est\u00e1vamos fazendo a digitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o de caminh\u00f5es.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>O produto original que West e sua equipe desenvolveram foi um scanner de carga, que \u00e9 uma ferramenta sem contato, do tipo \u201cdrive-through\u201d, projetada para medir volumes de materiais a granel. Quando um ve\u00edculo passa por baixo do scanner, o volume da carga \u00e9 digitalizado e um modelo 3D \u00e9 gerado. <\/p>\n<p>Ao comparar o perfil gerado com um perfil armazenado para o mesmo ve\u00edculo quando vazio, o scanner consegue calcular o volume da carga com uma precis\u00e3o de 1%, diz West. E, se for preciso, d\u00e1 pra estimar o peso da carga convertendo o volume da carga com base na densidade aparente do material da carga. O c\u00e1lculo do peso pode ser feito usando um software.  <\/p>\n<p>A tecnologia tem tudo para mudar a forma como produtores e usu\u00e1rios medem os materiais. Ele diz que ela fornece a ambas as partes medidas precisas do volume dos materiais em quest\u00e3o de segundos. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cMuita gente acha que a gente concorre com as balan\u00e7as-ponte e as balan\u00e7as comuns\u201d, diz West. \u201cNosso foco \u00e9 o volume, e o que voc\u00ea ganha com volumes e digitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 a densidade. Meu pai n\u00e3o queria ser enganado. Ele queria que fosse justo, porque por que outra pessoa deveria se beneficiar se chovesse?\u201d    <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Explora\u00e7\u00e3o de oportunidades<\/h3>\n<p>A pergunta sobre a chuva faz todo o sentido. A chuva afeta especialmente o peso dos materiais org\u00e2nicos, diz o West. Quem faz compostagem, por exemplo, \u00e9 afetado porque o produto ret\u00e9m bastante umidade.  <\/p>\n<p>Digamos, por exemplo, que 1 cu. yd. de cobertura vegetal seca pese 400 lbs. West diz que a presen\u00e7a de umidade aumenta bastante o peso. \u201cSe pesar mais, o cliente vai levar menos no caminh\u00e3o\u201d, diz ele. A compostagem \u00e9 uma \u00e1rea em que o LoadScan vem ganhando espa\u00e7o nos Estados Unidos.     <\/p>\n<p>Outro mercado com potencial \u00e9 o monitoramento de entulho. A FEMA (Ag\u00eancia Federal de Gest\u00e3o de Emerg\u00eancias) \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pela limpeza ap\u00f3s desastres naturais. Eles pagam com base na quantidade de material carregado na carroceria do caminh\u00e3o ao limpar uma \u00e1rea.  <\/p>\n<p>Tamb\u00e9m existe potencial para a medi\u00e7\u00e3o de carga nos setores de agregados e constru\u00e7\u00e3o civil.
