Volumetric Payload Technology

Loadscan provides the latest in laser scanning volumetric payload technology. The Loadscan Load Volume Scanner (LVS) is a non-contact ‘drive-through’ measurement instrument for the measurement of bulk aggregates in open-tray truck and trailer units.

Scanning and measuring volume

As the target vehicle drives under the scanner, the loadscan precisely scans the load volume and creates a 3D model or ‘surface profile’. By comparing this profile with that stored on file for the same vehicle when empty, the loadscan is then able to calculate the load volume to a proven accuracy of +/- 1% or to the point of resolution which is .1m³. Each vehicle that uses the scanner is fitted with an RFID tag which identifies it as it passes under the scanner and matches it to it’s load. The maximum drive-through speed is 6km/h (3.7mph), which is roughly walking speed.

Volumetric truck measure is a standard tradable quantity within the civil construction, quarry and landscape supply industries, as well as other industries where flowable solids are carted and traded by the truck-load.

By working from volume rather than weight, a more accurate measure can be obtained. The Loadscan Load Volume Scanner literally “sees” the load, whereas volume measurement converted from the weight generated from a weighing system is commonly effected by environment factors such as moisture and varying material densities.

Converting volume to weight

If required, the weight of the load can be estimated by converting the load volume using the bulk density (mass-to-volume ratio) of the load material. This weight calculation can be done instantly using the tallyclerk software, or manually using our bulk density chart which lists typical bulk products.
